Job Title: Maintenance Worker                                                                  

FLSA:  Non- Exempt

Job Status: Part Time

Reporting Functions: Reports to the Pastor and Business Manager

Job Function:  To provide maintenance work for all parish properties. Responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties to ensure that parish property, parish buildings, and cemeteries have a pleasant and presentable appearance and are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner for staff, parishioners, and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Remove all trash and debris from all parish cemetery grounds; this includes all trash receptacles, remove debris, dead plants and flowers surrounding graves twice a week.

 

  1. Five day – post burial removal of all flowers from gravesites; plant over-seed grass and water, accordingly, repair any dead grass patches for all parish cemetery sites.

 

  1. Notify Finance Manager of any major repairs necessary, coordinate repairs with any outside vendors.

 

  1. Snow and ice removal to ensure clear access to parish properties for the safety of all parish employees and parishioners. Follow up if needed. Ensure that an adequate supply of salt is kept at all locations in case of a snow emergency.

 

  1. Provide daily checks, routine plant maintenance, and grass cutting at rectory, boy scout camp, etc., to keep the grounds clean and safe. Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and adjoining areas clean.

 

  1. Provide various minor repairs on all parish properties.  This may include electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, and the daily maintenance of equipment.

 

  1. Repair any minor sinkholes resulting from grave settlement at cemetery sites, fill with rock and dirt, replant grass and water accordingly.

 

  1. Oversee any inspections and major repairs on churches and their associated buildings.

 

  1. Winterize the Church and rectory.  This includes draining radiators, removing all air conditioners, and draining and storing all seasonal equipment not in use.

 

  1. Any additional duties that may be assigned by the Business Manager or Pastor.

Educational Requirements:

  • At least 5 years in maintenance and cleaning/janitorial duties.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:

  • Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, loyalty, and dependability and have a strong work ethic.

 

  • Must have knowledge of grounds and building tools and equipment operations and possess the ability to perform repairs to minor equipment.

 

  • The ability to work independently and perform multi-task and demonstrate competence in all areas of responsibility.

 

  • Must be physically capable of lifting weights not in excess of one hundred (100) pounds.  Must be physical capable of bending, stretching, pivoting and going up and down ladders and flights of steps on a frequent basis.

 

  • Must be able to be “on-call” for any emergencies.

 

  • Must be able to work with all staff members, co-workers and contractors in a professional manner.

 

  • Must be self-motivated and prompt in performing tasks.

 

  • Must have a current, valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License.  Revocation of license may result in termination of employment.

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb and descend ladders, and stoop; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must have a full range of body motion, to include bending at waist and full use of lower extremities and back muscles. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; smell; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as furniture, cleaning equipment and chemical containers, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet and noisy environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.

 

Working Conditions:  Indoor and outdoor; the employee is occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions.

Part Time position: 25 hours a week, on call for emergencies.
