Diocesan faithful donated almost $300,000 for hurricane relief

In three separate special collections taken up in the 84 parishes of the Diocese of Allentown in September and October, parish members donated $296,247.41 for relief of victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. Harvey impacted Texas, Irma the Caribbean and Florida and Maria devastated Puerto Rico.

The money donated will be used to support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and reconstruction support to impacted dioceses through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Diocese of Allentown Bishop Alfred Schlert said, “I am heartened by the generosity shown by the people of our Diocese, who by their prayers and sacrificial donations showed their compassion for the people whose lives were changed by these terrible storms.”
