Father George Osei Ababio is one of over 550 members of the Class of 2025 of Alvernia University, Reading.
The assistant pastor of St. Ignatius Loyola, Sinking Spring earned a Master of Business Administration degree in community service and economic leadership at Alvernia's commencement May 10. He also serves the Diocese of Allentown as Chaplain at Penn State Health – St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the staff and faculty of Alvernia University for their support and help. I'm grateful as well to my classmates who have been with me all this while,” said Father Osei Ababio. “Alvernia University has the flexibility you would need to succeed. They'll accompany you throughout your educational journey, and you can also go at your own pace.”
Father Osei Ababio also participated in the Baccalaureate Mass alongside Father Ronald Bowman at Sacred Heart Chapel on campus at the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters’ Motherhouse that preceded the ceremony. Father Bowman is Chaplain for the sisters’ St. Joseph Villa.
After receiving his degree, Father Osei Ababio gave the Benediction, blessing his fellow graduates before they go into the world.
A portion of his blessing reads: “As you go forth, put into practice the accumulated knowledge you have achieved and strive toward excellence in all you do. Go forth with your head in the clouds of ambition toward making life better for all, as well as for yourself. May your voices rise up to pronounce justice and peace in the world by celebrating and lifting up those around you....”
In addition to his Master’s Degree, Father Osei Ababio also earned the Comeback Award for Resiliency and Excellence in Graduate and Adult Education. The award recognizes bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students who used education as a transformative tool to overcome life’s challenges and create a positive change in their lives and communities.
“I look forward to using the knowledge I'm acquiring from Alvernia University to better serve the Catholic Church, the Diocese of Allentown—my home diocese—and of course, humanity,” said Father Osei Ababio. “I [made] my comeback after completing high school studies as a business student 16 years ago. You can also [make] yours, too.”
