Holy Family Senior Living (HFSL) in Bethlehem is hosting a day of golf, fun, and fellowship at its Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, June 14 at Southmoore Golf Club in Bath.
Proceeds support the programs and services that benefit more than 1,000 seniors who annually reside at Holy Family Manor, Holy Family Grace Mansion Personal Care, and Holy Family Independent Living.
“The dollars we gain will help us with patient care,” said CEO Joseph Shadid. “We put it toward our patients and residents to maintain their quality of life and care.”
Since 1963, HFSL ensures that every resident receives the best possible physical, social, emotional, and spiritual care with respect, dignity, and compassion.
“We are Catholic through and through,” said Shadid, who works closely with the Diocese of Allentown. Between three to seven priests may reside at HFSL at any given time, he said, and 65% of residents are Catholic.
HSFL has a full-time priest, plus three religious sisters, and there will soon be a deacon serving on site, said Shadid.
HFSL has been recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2024.” HFSL’s rehabilitation center is staffed by board-certified geriatricians from St. Luke’s Senior Care Associates and Lehigh Valley Physicians Group Geriatric Medicine.
HFSL not only offers residents a great place to live, but also works to ensure that their physical, social, creative, and spiritual needs and desires are met.
“The elderly are hit with boredom and depression,” said Shadid. “There are only so many hours one can watch television.”
HFSL offers many activities, such as Mass daily at 10:30 a.m., recitation of the Rosary daily, Bible study, and personal one-on-one time with nuns and the newly assigned deacon.
Quality of food is also very important to the elderly. “Since their mobility is not great, good food appeals to their senses of smell and taste, and provides enjoyment,” said Shadid.
HFSL also provides residents with fun and life-enriching activities. There are bus trips to visit local sites.
On site, residents can enjoy a game of bingo, or work together on jigsaw puzzles. They can get their hands dirty in gardening activities or bake cookies with the help of activity assistants. Residents enjoy holiday and birthday celebrations with friends. They can even simply relax and enjoy watching the bird aviary.
“All the money supports these,” said Shadid of the proceeds from the annual golf tournament.
Cost of the golf tournament is $125 per golfer. Registration is at 7 a.m. with shotgun start at 8 a.m. All golf sponsorships and reservations include 18 holes of golf with cart, driving range time, breakfast, on-course refreshments, awards luncheon, and prizes.
