Job Title: Manager of School Finance

Reporting Functions: Reports to the Director of Parish and School Support with dotted line reporting to the Secretary for Administration, no reports. 

Job Function:  The Manager of School Finance is responsible for sound financial management to help our schools flourish.  The Director of Parish and School Support and the Manager for School Finance are in service to the pastoral, strategic and financial priorities and aspirations of the Bishop of the Diocese of Allentown.  The Manager of School Finance will report to and collaborate with the Director of Parish and School Support and the administrative offices of finance.  

Scope of Support: 

  • All Elementary Schools, High Schools and Special Learning Centers
  • (5) Counties:  Lehigh, Berks, Northampton, Carbon and Schuylkill
  • High degree of interface with our central finance and accounting team in the Secretariat for Administration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with Pastors, Principals and School Business Managers and Bookkeepers to understand the opportunities and issues facing each school. Take strategic lead to resolve issues and identify opportunities while strengthening existing relationships.
  1. Monitor financial data of schools at risk and ensure that pastors and parish financial leaders are timely updated on the financial status of schools.
  1. Work directly with identified schools, review and analyze financial data and assist in the preparations of budgets and financial reports and projections.
  1. Examine funding alternatives for Catholic education in collaboration with administrative team to make recommendations on the best fit for individual schools.
  1. Review individual school financial and budget reports and provide feedback to school management. 
  1. Evaluate policies and procedures in the schools and identify best practices. Implement standardizations when necessary.
  1. Provide an analytical framework to measure results and progress of goals for the individual schools and the system overall.
  1. Communicate to school management the metrics that should be used to measure school academic health and success, school financial health and school goal achievement.
  1. Work on special projects as required and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or Accounting, or equivalent combination of education, plus 5-10 years of relevant experience in two or more functional areas working in a finance role for either a non-profit or for-profit organization.

  • Highly accurate and detailed with exceptional strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong teamwork to work with Diocesan staff, Pastors, School Boards and School Principals to achieve the success of the individual schools and the system as a whole.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong Catholic identity and commitment to the mission of the Church.
  • Must be passionate about Catholic Education with a desire to help our schools succeed.
  • A high degree of integrity, confidentiality, strong work ethic and a willingness to gain knowledge of the mission of the Diocese of Allentown and its affiliates quickly and continuously.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly working with spreadsheets and charting/graphing data.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the Diocese to meet with parishes, schools, and employees.

Physical Demands:  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear; frequent use of equipment that includes repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Working Conditions:  Normal office environment and will be required to attend meetings at other locations.  Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Travel for business purposes required (normally not overnight). 

Pay:  $60,000 per year
