Job Title: Maintenance Technician, Part Time

Reporting Functions: Reports to the Pastor or his designee
Job Function: Provide a variety of services for the parish. Responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties to ensure that parish property, parish buildings and facilities have a pleasant and presentable appearance and are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner for staff, parishioners, and the public.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assure that parish buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. This includes trash removal and maintenance of restrooms; strip and wax floors as needed.
- Provide daily checks and routine physical plant maintenance of all grounds, buildings and structures affiliated with the parish. Keep and maintain grounds by picking up garbage daily to maintain a safe and clean environment. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean.
- Maintain proper security of all parish properties. Lock and unlock church when necessary.
- Ensure suitable temperature settings, appropriate to the season, to provide a comfortable but economically efficient work environment. Turns off lights in unoccupied areas. Adjust heating for unoccupied times and vacation and holidays.
- Examine climate control systems for all parish properties. If applicable, schedule annual maintenance of boilers, heating units and air conditioning systems and check thermostat batteries.
- Provide various minor repairs on parish properties including but not limited to electrical, change of light bulbs, plumbing and carpentry.
- Maintain outdoor drains and gutters for parish properties and schedule cleanings.
- Assure that the grounds of parish properties are maintained by, trimming trees and bushes, watering and edging the lawns, weeding, pruning as necessary and raking on a seasonal basis.
- Follow up snow and ice removal to ensure clear access to parish buildings and the safety of all parish employees and parishioners. Apply salt if necessary.
- Verify any contractor hired by the parish. The Pastor must first approve any use of an outside contractor. Organize and direct parish volunteers in any maintenance or grounds projects.
- Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (ex. facility damage, safety drills, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to solve immediate safety issues and maintaining of functioning physical environment.
- Keeps custodial closets clean and orderly. Services job-related machinery/equipment (e.g., adjusting, cleaning, and oiling vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, buffers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining equipment in good working condition. Also changes brushes, pads, rollers, etc. on equipment. Maintain and take inventory of all cleaning supplies, tools, equipment, and other maintenance items.
- Review what needs to be done and create a work plan to be submitted to the pastor and business manager as necessary. Keep work and maintenance records done during the week.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Pastor or the Pastor’s designee.
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and at least 5 years’ experience in maintenance and cleaning/custodial duties

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people (administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents, etc.).
- Must be self-motivated and prompt in performing tasks and have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative to act without being asked. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with frequent interruptions utilizing time management, organizational and prioritization skills and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
- Thorough understanding of custodial methods, processes, procedures and use of chemicals and equipment. Knowledge of grounds and building tools, equipment operations and possess the ability to properly care for and perform minor repairs to equipment.
- Ability to read and understand documents such as labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and use as directed.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the principal.
- Must be able to be “on-call” for any emergencies including snow removal and must be able to perform tasks in every kind of weather condition. Must be able to withstand constant exposure to climate change, working outdoors.
- Must have a current, valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License. Revocation of license may result in termination of employment.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb and descend ladders, and stoop; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must have a full range of body motion, to include bending at waist and full use of lower extremities and back muscles. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; smell; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as furniture, cleaning equipment and chemical containers, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet and noisy environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor; the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, adverse weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic and caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. Part Time position: Schedule to be determined upon hire; Evenings and weekend work may be required as needed. On-call for emergencies.
