Position Description

Job Title:        Executive Director of Evangelization and Formation

FLSA:             Exempt         

Job Function: The Executive Director is responsible for the management, supervision, administration and supervision of  the Office of Evangelization and Formation. The Office of Evangelization and Formation provides opportunities for growth in the Catholic faith, prayer and the spiritual life for youth, individuals and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides support to parishes throughout the diocese by providing innovative means, methods and resources for evangelization, religious education and the spiritual development of the faithful throughout the diocese.
  2. Supervises and guides members of the Office of Evangelization and Formation including the Director of the Office of Adult Catechesis and Evangelization and the Director of Young Adult and Campus Evangelization to coordinate and effectuate all outreach.
  3. Communicates with pastors/parishes to assess parish needs and determine how the Office may assist to fulfill the needs identified. 
  4. Establishes collaborative relationships with other Secretariats and diocesan networks. Participates in committees and commissions as assigned.  Collaborates with Secretariat for Evangelization, Education, and Formation staff to provide faith enrichment opportunities for homeschool families. Provides consultation and support to related ministries at the parish level.
  5. Provides consultation, support, and resources to youth ministry leadership at the parish and regional levels. Facilitates regional and diocesan gatherings to establish fellowship and support among youth ministry leadership.
  6. Facilitates and promotes youth ministry initiatives and programming at the diocesan level and collaborates with parish youth ministry leadership to provide youth initiatives and programming at the regional level.
  7. Oversees all Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) operations in collaboration with the CYO Coordinator. Provides support to District Commissioners, District Chaplains, Pastors, and other parish and regional leadership involved in the management of CYO programming.
  8. Oversees all Scouting operations in collaboration with the Scouting Chairman. Provides support to parish and regional leadership involved in the management of Scouting programming.
  9. Manages ministry initiatives involving the elderly and the homebound. Provides consultation and support to related ministries at the parish level.
  10. Manages ministry initiatives involving bereavement, divorce and remarriage, and other ministries related to family life. Provides consultation and support to related ministries at the parish level.
  11. Responsible for the fiscal management of the Office of Evangelization and Formation; this includes development of an annual budget with monthly review of expenditures and proper maintenance of fiscal operations.
  12. Maintains liaison and networking relationships with other dioceses, national groups, movements, and associations related to youth and family ministry.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
Bachelors’ Degree in theology, philosophy, or education and strong background in Theology or related field preferred.  Prior management and administrative leadership role; parish and/or diocesan experience desired. Thorough knowledge of the Roman Catholic faith, as well as an understanding of evangelization and discipleship is required.  Lifestyle in conformity with Catholic teaching. Ministry experience with children, youth, and/or adults is required. A high level of proven experience in working in a team environment along with extensive time management, project management, collaboration and event scheduling is essential.  High attention to detail in planning is a must.

Other Requirements:
Proven administrative experience, organizational skills, leadership and interpersonal skills as well as creativity in program planning.  Ability to use technology relative to performing the duties of the office. Knowledge of and familiarity with Diocesan structure is recommended. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church and possess a willingness to work within an atmosphere of Christian principles.

Physical Demands: 
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, bend and stoop.  They are required to talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.  Use of hands to operate standard office equipment; with occasional reaching and lifting up to 35 pounds.

Working Conditions:  
Normal office environment. Working Hours - 35 hours - Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. May be required to occasionally work more than standard work hours, including various evening and weekend responsibilities connected with programming and events.

Pay:  $65,000 to $75,000 per year
