Director of Insurance & Real Estate, Diocese of Allentown

This full time, exempt position is responsible for administration of the diocesan self-insurance program which includes property, liability, boiler and machinery, workers’ compensation, special events and student accident. Provides, oversees and coordinates diocesan-wide risk management and prevention services. Responsible for management of real estate including the purchase or sale of property, construction and service contracts, leases and management and review of building contracts.  A clear understanding of the Catholic faith and her traditions and values and a willingness to act in accordance with Church teachings and moral standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Insurance Program: 

  • Policy renewals
  • Claims handling
  • Incurred but not reported (IBNR) loss developments
  • Billing & payment
  • Special events coverage
  • Renewal of bonds and trusts
  • Industrial appraisal
  • Insurance program administration
  • Self-insurance financial audit

Loss Prevention & Risk Management:

  • Prevention and risk management procedures
  • Initiate policies & procedures
  • Oversee automobile database
  • Quarterly safety newsletter
  • Drivers’ License Verifications

Real Estate: 

  • Assist diocesan entities with purchases and sales of real estate
  • Review of leases & construction contracts
  • Maintain deed & facility databases


Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business or associated area; knowledge of insurance and legal concepts and principles. Must have prior work experience in a similar position. 

Other Requirements: Proficient in Word, Excel and Access; Valid driver’s license

Working conditions: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., occasional evenings and weekend in the event of an emergency or as needed.
