Lehigh Valley couples married 70 years to lead Diocesan anniversary celebration

Two couples married for 70 years will be honored at the Diocese of Allentown’s 38th annual Anniversary celebration on Sunday, September 17.

Joseph and Hilda Schedler of Easton, members of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish and Francis and Isabelle Kercimar of Allentown, members of St. John the Baptist Parish were married in 1947. They are the longest married couples being honored at the celebration at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown, which is scheduled for 3 PM.

84 other couples that have been married 50 or more years have also registered. In total, the 126 couples to be honored have been married just less than 6,000 years.

Allentown Bishop Alfred Schlert will celebrate Mass at the event and deliver the homily. Each of the couples in attendance will receive a personalized certificate signed by Bishop Schlert.

The Diocesan Office of Marriage and Natural Family Planning sponsors the annual celebration. Couples celebrating five, twenty-five, forty, fifty and sixty or more years of marriage are invited.
