Auditors Find Diocese in Compliance with Child Protection Charter

December 14, 2007

For the fourth time in four audits the Gavin Group, Inc. of Winthrop, Massachusetts has found the Diocese of Allentown "in compliance" with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, adopted by the Bishops of the United States in 2002.

A former FBI agent, now employed by the Gavin Group, a firm that was commissioned by the National Review Board to perform the audits, was in the Diocese November 5-8. To measure compliance, the auditor examined pertinent documents and interviewed several people, including Diocesan Review Board members, law enforcement personnel, pastors, and Chancery staff. The Diocese cooperated fully and provided the team with whatever information they requested.

In a letter to the Diocese, William A. Gavin wrote, "Based on the analysis of the results of the 2007 Fall Audit of the Diocese of Allentown, you have been found to be in compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People."

The Most Reverend Edward P. Cullen, D.D., Bishop of Allentown said, "It is encouraging to know that professionals in this area of service, after a careful audit, have conferred upon the Diocese the highest level of compliance."
