Diocese to Hold Multicultural Celebration of Faith

August 6, 2007

The Diocese of Allentown will celebrate the multicultural richness of the Catholic Church through a day of prayer, music and sharing of food at an event it is calling a "Multicultural Celebration of Faith" Sunday, August 12 from 1 to 7 PM on the grounds of St. Francis Retreat House in Easton.

For close to a year, a committee representing different ethnicities and various parishes of the diocese has been planning this day.

The event is sponsored by the diocesan Office for Social Action, as part of its multicultural affairs outreach and will be held rain or shine. The day will include prayer, picnic-style food and cultural entertainment, as well as children's activities.

"This celebration presents a wonderful opportunity to witness the many cultures that share in our Catholic faith in the Diocese of Allentown," said Mary Ann Hammer, Director of the diocesan Office for Social Action.

Filipino, Hispanic, Vietnamese, Black Catholics and others will provide entertainment for half-hour time periods, beginning after the Prayer Service. There also will be a cultural fashion show. Everyone is asked to bring a dish of their favorite food for sharing, and is encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket.
