Bishop to Ordain Pottsville Man a Priest

The Most Reverend Edward P. Cullen, D.D., Bishop of Allentown will ordain a Pottsville man a priest in ceremonies at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown on June 2 at 10:30 A.M.

The man to be ordained is Reverend Mr. Christopher S. Butera, 28, of Pottsville where he is a member of St. Joseph Church.

Butera was born in Reading. He graduated from Pottsville High School and the Virginia Military Institute where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Before entering St. Charles Seminary, Butera served in the United States Army where he still holds the rank of lieutenant in the Army Reserves.

During his year as a transitional deacon Butera was assigned to the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown. He was recently featured in a USA TODAY article on some of the almost 500 men being ordained priests across the country this year.
