Local Serra Club to Donate Money for VocationsApril 24, 2007 The Allentown Serra Club, the local chapter of an international organization dedicated to promoting vocations to the Catholic priesthood, will donate $1,500 to help with those efforts. At the club's May 2 dinner meeting at the Days Inn Conference Center in South Whitehall Township, club president Siegfried Mayr will donate $1,000 to the Diocese of Allentown and $500 to the Apostles of Jesus religious order. Diocesan Vocations Director Father Francis Nave will accept the $1,000 on behalf of the Diocese. Father Paul Gaggawala, Superior of the Apostles Of Jesus Missionaries in the United States, will accept the $500 on behalf of his order. The Apostles of Jesus is a religious order based in Africa that has three priests serving in the Diocese of Allentown. Serra, founded in
Seattle in 1935, is an international organization of Catholic lay men
and women who work to promote vocations to the priesthood and religious
life. There are five Serra Club chapters in the Diocese of Allentown,
378 Serra Clubs in the United States. There are 12,000 Serra Club members
