forward to sharing with you information about the stewardship
efforts in parishes throughout Berks, Carbon, Lehigh,
Northampton and Schuylkill counties. We want to hear from
you! If your parish is actively working in stewardship
or if you are considering becoming a stewardship parish,
let us know and share your activities and plans!"
What
is Stewardship?
Stewardship is a spirituality, a way of life. The word
"stewardship" is taken from the Bible and refers
to taking care of the gifts that we have been given. Stewardship
is living out a commitment to be Christ-centered rather
than self-centered. Profound gratitude, justice and love
become the fundamental motives for giving back to God.
Everything that we have is a gift from God. We demonstrate
our love for Him and our willingness to serve by returning
a portion of our Time, Talent and Treasure to the work
of His Church on Earth.
Quote
on Stewardship
from Pope Benedict:
The promotion of the practice of stewardship is
important for the mission of the Church and for the spiritual
well-being of each individual Christian. Everyone benefits
from the sacrificial gift one makes of his Time, Talent
and Treasure.
From
A Summary of the 1992 U.S. Bishops Pastoral
Letter, Stewardship: A Disciples Response:
What identifies a steward? Safeguarding material and human
resources and using them responsibly is one answer; so
is generous giving of time, talent, and treasure. But
being a Christian steward means more. As Christian stewards,
we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly,
share them lovingly in justice with others, and return
them with increase to the Lord.
