Frequently
Asked Questions and Answers
What
is the difference between the Bishops Annual Appeal
and the capital campaign, Strengthening our Future
in Faith?
Quite
simply, the Bishops Annual Appeal (BAA) is the financial
foundation of everyday operating expenses which support
our continuing ability to provide vital services like
our ecumenical kitchen or seminary education for new priests.
On the other hand, the 2003 Strengthening Our Future
in Faith (SOFF) campaign raised funds for specific
capital projects and programs around the diocese. All
funds collected for SOFF continue to be allocated solely
and exclusively for the categories of ministry as identified
in the case statement. SOFF was a one-time opportunity
for our parishioners to make a very significant impact
on the lives of many people.
SOFF
not only met, but exceeded its campaign goal, thanks to
the generosity of our faithful parishioners. Excess
funds collected through SOFF will be made available to
designated SOFF components by way of the Campaign Continuation
Follow-up Committee.
How
much am I expected to give?
The
Bishops Annual Appeal is an opportunity for you
to make a positive impact on the lives of those who are
less fortunate. Please consider your sacrificial gift
in terms of your overall tithing (10%) in stewardship:
parish (5%), diocese (1%) and other
charities (4%).
How
long will I have to meet my pledge?
We
are asking parishioners to fulfill a pledge over a six-month
period. Making a pledge allows you to contribute a larger
gift to the Bishops Annual Appeal over a period
of time.
Why
should I support the Appeal?
Your
support of the Bishops Annual Appeal helps to ensure
that you, your loved ones, your neighbors and your co-workers
have help when it is needed. Your gift is an outward sign
of your faith in God and the work of His Church. Collectively,
the diocese supports many ministries that are larger than
any one parish could support. When you contribute to the
Bishops Annual Appeal, we are able to pool our resources
together as a Diocesan Church and make a daily difference
in the lives of thousands.
