Drouncheck, President Phone: 570-722-2034 Elementary School Religious Education The Elementary School Religious Education Department assists the superintendent in matters and programs pertaining to religious education such as: conducting meetings with elementary religion coordinators; conducting the Religious Education Certificate Program for teachers; coordinating new teacher reflection days; assists in coordinating retreats and days of recollection for teachers; visiting schools to review religion programs; assisting in the development of religion curriculum; coordinating the RAINBOWS program; acting as a liaison of the Superintendent with pastors, principals, teachers, and parents in matters pertaining to elementary schools religious education. Parish Religious Education The Parish Religious Education Department assists the superintendent in matters and programs pertaining to religious education such as: recommending and interviewing parish religious education applicants for placement; reviewing religious education reports, meeting with parish religious education personnel on an individual basis; overseeing the Association of Director/Coordinator/Administrators of Religious Education (ACRE); conducting the Religious Education Certificate Program for Catechists; visiting parishes to review religion programs; assisting in the development of religion curriculum; coordinating the parish RAINBOWS program; coordinating the Eastern PA Director/Coordinator/ Administrator Conference (EPDRE); acting as a liaison of the Superintendent with pastors, principals, catechists, and parents in matters pertaining to parish religious education. Ms. Barbara Amabile, Assistant Superintendent Phone: 610-866-0581 Fax: 610-867-8702 Curriculum, Supervision and Professional Development (Elementary/Secondary Schools) The Curriculum, Supervision and Professional Development Department assists the Superintendent concerning certain matters and programs generally pertaining to the elementary schools of the diocese such as: conducting the Administrators Development Program; visiting classrooms to monitor the programs; coordinating the Middle States evaluation program; setting up curriculum articulation meeting; meeting with all principals; assisting in the development of curriculum and sponsoring curriculum workshops; administering the Diocesan testing program; acting as a liaison of the Superintendent with the principals, teachers, pastors and religious communities.. The Secondary School Department oversee and directs the Secondary Principals Committee, the Directors of Spiritual Activities Committee, and the Theology Department Chairpersons Committee. Phone: 610-866-0581 Fax: 610-867-8702 Special Education While definitions of the categories of disabilities may differ, one thing is certain: children and young adults who have delays in their social, academic or developmental functioning need special attention. The Office of Education, Diocese of Allentown, responds with special education programs that, since 1954, have shown that many students with intellectual and developmental disabilities can be contributing members of society. In addition to services provided for these individuals, the Diocese also provides specialized instruction for students with learning disabilities. More important, these education programs affirm the truism that society's success may be measured by how well it responds to the needs of its most vulnerable members. The Department works with school districts, intermediate units, state and federal officials to assure equitable participation of diocesan staff and students in discretionary as well as competitive programs. The Department monitors current and proposed legislation to advocate supports from appropriate political constituencies. Instructional Technology The Instructional Technology Department assists and encourages principals and teachers to use technology in the school curriculum including the religion and theology curriculum. The Department visits the schools to help the staff implement the Diocesan Technology Plan and assist librarians to identify on line resources and other software to support the curriculum.
