DIOCESE OF ALLENTOWN
STUDENT PROGRAM

VENDOR AFFIDAVITS

Before the amendment to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Public School Code effective April 1, 2007,  all vendors and independent contractors of the Diocese of Allentown, its parishes, schools, administrative offices and affiliated organizations who, now or over time, may be reasonably expected to come into contact with children, were required to provide proof that their employees had a criminal history check from the Pennsylvanian State Police and a child abuse check from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.  Proof of this was  evidenced by the execution of an “Affidavit of Compliance Concerning Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse History Clearance.”

The vendor affidavit, prior to April 1, 2007, was used mostly by diocesan schools with their vendors and independent contractors.   This affidavit now cannot be used by schools as the amendment to state law requires schools to receive the actual paperwork from the vendors and keep these in their files.

There remains a possibility that a parish, administrative office or affiliated organization might hire a vendor or independent contractor that would be reasonably expected to come into contact with children such as a vendor doing work in or around a pre-school, CCD/PREP class or CYO event, or a vendor at a parish festival.  Therefore, the vendor affidavit is still available for this purpose on the Diocese of Allentown’s website, www.allentowndiocese.org, by clicking on “Protection of Youth” then “Vendor Affidavits.”
