in ILM are six weeks in length, and are taken in consecutive order as listed below.
Integral to each session is prayer, course content, faith sharing, and large/small
group discussion, which provide participants with an opportunity to make applications
to their faith life and ministry. Year
One Old Testament This course provides
an Introduction to basic Biblical scholarship and an overview of the Old Testament.
By focusing on Creation, Biblical Ancestors, Prophets and Psalms, participants
will better understand God's interaction with his chosen people. Integral to each
session is prayer, course content, faith sharing, and large/small group discussion,
which provide participants with an opportunity to make application to their faith
life and ministry. New Testament This course provides
an Introduction and Overview of the New Testament. Through a study of the four
Gospels and St. Paul's Epistles, the participants will better know the person
of Jesus Christ, his life, mission, death and resurrection. Christian
Prayer This course discusses the definition and meaning of prayer
with emphasis on various methods and opportunities for practice. Participants
will be led to an appreciation of prayer and its connection to daily life. Church
This course presents a theology of Church focusing on the mission of the Church
as it unfolded over the past two thousand years. By studying Lumen Gentium, Gaudiaum
et Spes and Called and Gifted for the Third Millennium, participants will better
understand the Church as the People of God and the role of the laity in today's
Church. Ministry Skills In this course, through
the use of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, students become aware of their personality
type, learn and respect the type of others, and determine how best to work in
groups from that knowledge. Oral and written communication skills related to parish
ministry are taught, as well as opportunity to process and share their Ministry
Visit. Year 2
Foundations
of Faith This course presents an introduction to the Catechism
of the Catholic Church and a theological foundation in the doctrine of the faith.
Participants will deepen their knowledge of the basic beliefs stated in the Creed.
Liturgy This course is an introduction to the
theology and pastoral practice of the Church's liturgy, the source and summit
of Christian life. Participants will explore various parts of the mass to understand
them more fully and implement them more effectively in their parishes. Christian
Spirituality This course examines the method and experience, history
and theology of Christian spirituality with a particular emphasis on the spirituality
of everyday life. Participants explore the gifts and challenges of their individual
spirituality and their subsequent call to discipleship and ministry. Mission
and Ministry This course provides participants with an understanding
of their call to mission and ministry and the many and varied ways to respond
to that invitation. Guest speakers form various diocesan offices will enhance
the learning of this course. Integral to each session is prayer, course content,
faith sharing, and large/small group discussion which provide participants with
an opportunity to make application to their faith life and ministry.. Leadership
Skills Through an examination of Jesus as Servant-Leader and pertinent
leadership styles, students will learn valuable ministry skills for leadership.
An explanation of the organizational structure of the parish, as well as an opportunity
to write goals relating to the parish will be offered. On the final week of the
course students will process their ministry visit

3
The Pastoral Implications of Canon Law This
four-hour workshop will provide a basic overview of the general concepts of Canon
Law and the pastoral implications for the Pastoral Minister. A special focus on
the areas of Canon Law that relate to the Sacraments will provide the major content
of the session. Catholic Morality This course provides
a basic introduction to the fundamental teachings of Catholic morality and its
foundations in sacred scripture, Tradition and Natural Law. Participants will
examine virtue, conscience formation and apply moral theology to contemporary
moral issues in the areas of health care, sexuality and social justice. Integral
to each session is prayer, course content, faith sharing and large/small group
discussion, which provide participants with an opportunity to make application
to their faith life and ministry. Sacraments This
course is an introduction to the history, theology and celebration of the Church's
Sacraments. Participants will better understand these central rituals of the Christian
faith and be led to celebrate them in a full, conscious and active way. Integrated
Spirituality This course examines how contemplation and ministry
are integrated and balanced in everyday life. Participants will be offered essential
tools to better equip them for ongoing spiritual growth. Pastoral
Skills This course focuses on assisting students in the selecting,
planning and processing a project that integrates their three-year experience
of knowledge and ministry skills. Various skills such as: planning, time management,
collaboration, and neutralizing conflict are offered, which will aid students
in working in their parishes.
